Since
the introduction of the RAM [Rotarians Against Malaria] nets project,
there has been growing ancedotal evidence that we are seeing less of
a burden of disease at
Kapuna
Hospital. . . . the fever associated with malaria is very deterimental
on a baby in-utero. The effects of this may be manifested by an increase
in babies born premature . . .
The
RAM nets started distribution in the third quarter of 2002. Premature
delivers showed a trend to decrease since the third quarter of 2003.
Coverage in surrounding villages may now be as high as 95%.
