Systematic
Impact
The systemic impact of ITNs is astonishing. When Rotarians gave mosquito
nets to Hospital and visits went down by 25% in Western Kenya and a
full 40% in Northern Ghana. Fewer hospital visits mean fewer people
are getting sick. The health systems have more resources to apply to
the other diseases. Hospital beds are freed up. Doctors and, more importantly,
nurses may be less overworked. They - the hospitals, staff and the individuals-
may have more money for vital medicines. The community benefits from
insecticide treated nets reach far beyond simply lowering rates of killer
malaria.
